Zirconia teeth

Zirconium crowns allow light to pass through as with a normal tooth giving it a natural look, unlike other metal cores which block the light

Zirconium also called Zirconia (Cercon) is rapidly becoming the material of choice for dentists. It is a very strong material able to withstand the wear and tear of every day use. Aesthetically, it is translucent very similar to a natural tooth, reflecting light in much the same way. This means that Zirconium, Zirconia has a very aesthetic effect, which may be important if your new crowns/veneers are to be at the front of your mouth and is particularly relevant in cases where the crowns will be seen beside natural teeth.

Zirconium crowns allow light to pass through as with a normal tooth giving a natural look, unlike other metal cores which block the light. Some resources are also calling them as Non-Allergic and say Zirconia is “Biocompatible” because the body does not reject it. Unlike Amalgam Fillings and metal alloys, the human body accepts zirconium, zirconia as a natural material, so you would not need to worry about allergies or adverse reactions.

Zirconium or Zirconia crowns/veneers do not corrode and the normal black gum line that you might see around a porcelain fused metal crown, will not occur, because of the strong ceramic material which is used. Also the hot and cold sensations you might feel with other crowns normally do not occur because of the lack of electrical conductivity.

The procedure consists of removal of portions of your natural tooth’s structure to accommodate the dental crown. A temporary crown will be fitted between visits, while your custom crown is crafted in our labs, from an impression of the original tooth the temporary crown is removed and your new custom dental crown is securely bonded in place.
