A cap-like structure that is permanently bonded to a particular tooth to provide superior aesthetics and function
A crown is a cap-like structure that is permanently bonded to a particular tooth to provide superior aesthetics and function. Sometimes crowns are referred to as caps. Crowns are a very effective way of providing patients with their desired cosmetic result, while at the same time strengthening the tooth structure. A crown fits over the remaining part of a prepared tooth, making it strong and giving it the shape of a natural tooth. Crowns can be used on almost any teeth and, if properly maintained, can last 15+ years.
Crowns can be used, both aesthetically and functionally, to:
We offer two different options for the material out of which crowns are made:
- The first option is Zirconium. Aesthetically, it is translucent and very similar to a natural tooth, reflecting light in much the same way. This means that Zirconium, has a very aesthetic effect, which may be important if your new crowns/veneers are to be at the front of your mouth and is particularly relevant in cases where the crowns will be seen beside natural teeth. Zirconium crowns allow light to pass through as with a normal tooth giving a natural look. They are also biocompatible and hygienic.
- The second material we offer is Porcelain. Porcelain crowns are made up of an inner layer of black metal, surrounded by an outer layer of tooth-colored porcelain. Porcelain crowns are a great and affordable option for crowning teeth.
